Turn Off Auto-Gain in Your EQ and Trust Your Ears

Your EQ’s auto-gain might be secretly cutting lows when you boost highs. This tutorial shows how to compensate manually and hear what really changes, then handle loudness across the whole mastering chain instead of inside one plugin.

▶ Layer Basses Without Turning Your Sub Into Mush

Using an Instrument Rack, you assign a sub and a mid bass, then high-pass the mid bass to clear space and low-shelf the sub to avoid overlap — a quick spectrum-checking workflow that keeps every layer in its own lane.

▶ Recreate That Chris Lorenzo ‘Invisible’ Bass in Diva

A square wave fundamental down low, a second oscillator an octave up to prevent phase cancelation, and an echo filtered into the mids while the dry sub stays mono. Solid lesson in carving sub presence with attitude.

▶ Live Feedback: Steal a Kick and Name Your Files

A boxy kick can smother your bass; swiping a kick from a reference track is a fast solution. Plus a reminder to name your exports with artist and track so labels can find you.

Glossary
white noise sweep — White noise sweep is a riser or faller made from filtered white noise, not a synth. Grab Xfer Serum or any sampler — load a one-shot white noise sample (or use Serum's noise oscillator), slap on an auto-filter or EQ, and automate the cutoff from 20 Hz to 20 kHz over 8 bars for a lift, or reverse it for a drop. Timestamp: automate from bar 33 to bar 41 on a 4-bar build.

🔮 Producer Horoscope (for fun) — Your hi-hats will feel distant; a touch of chorus on the vocal will suddenly glue everything. Just a phase.
