Steel City Dance Discs was founded in 2017 by Mall Grab, taking its name from Newcastle, Australia—known as the 'Steel City' and Mall Grab's hometown. After a change in artistic direction, Mall Grab left the label in 2023; he signed his share away in 2025 in exchange for the masters of his releases. Since 2023, the label has been run by Jarred Kennedy of Overcast Management, who manages Kettama, Partiboi69, and Loods. Steel City Dance Discs also operates a sublabel called Gutter Trax.
