Ninja Tune was formed in London in 1990 by Matt Black and Jonathan More, the duo known as Coldcut. The label remains 100% independent and won 'Independent Label of the Year' at the 2018 AIM awards. It has released Top-5 UK charting albums from Bicep, Bonobo, and Black Country, New Road, and a Top-10 album from Young Fathers. The label relaunched its Big Dada imprint as a label run by its Black, POC & Minority Ethnic staff. Ninja Tune entered a partnership with ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective to release, promote, and distribute their catalogue worldwide, and has a longstanding partnership with Brainfeeder to release, promote, and distribute that label's catalogue worldwide. The label's roster has included GRAMMY-nominated artists such as Bonobo, ODESZA, Jayda G, Hiatus Kaiyote, Louis Cole, and Thundercat.
