Founded in 1993 by Nick Halkes, Positiva began as a house label before shifting to mainstream dance output. Halkes had previously run XL Recordings. A subsidiary of Universal Music Group, the label has operated under Virgin EMI Records since 2012. Its headquarters are at the Universal UK offices, and it is the only large dance music label under the EMI banner in the UK.
